Meet the Members
Here is what a few of our lovely members feel about the choir.
‘Hi I’m Lynda and I’m a busy mum of 3. I used to love to sing and perform but lost my confidence as I got older and had children. After too many trips to playgroups and singing wind the bobbin up and wheels on the bus, I needed to sing something for me. Melody Makers is perfect, I don’t have to worry about evening rehearsals and getting the kids to bed. I get to rock on up after the school run with my younger two children and belt out some amazing classics. I don’t need to worry if the kids are noisy or rowdy everyone just takes it in their stride. This group is brilliant and I recommend it to any mum who just can’t face another round of Old McDonald’s farm!’

‘I sooo look fwd to a Tues morn! After having baby no. 3 I found it a bit of a struggle to go back to the ‘Baby Phase’. I’d done the baby sing song classes with my daughters and if I’m honest I really didn’t want to do it again. Then I discovered Melody Makers…. I absolutely love it! Having always been a bit of a musical theatre geek it was so exciting to learn grown up songs with beautiful melodies and harmonies with some very lovely mummies in the same boat as me! I can’t speak highly enough of Natalie, our boss! She is warm, personable, very welcoming to new members and extremely patient!! My little boy feels totally at home in the environment, happily playing whilst we sing and he’s now started to have a little boogie along too! I have met some very lovely ladies and really hope to be a member of Melody Makers for many years to come! Come say hi, it’s fun!!!’

When a friend said she’d seen an advert for a baby friendly choir I turned up not knowing quite what to expect. I was faced with a friendly bunch of mothers, babies, and toddlers. At the helm Natalie effortlessly turning potential chaos into beautiful music. My daughter loves the singing and if I need to feed or change… her during rehearsal it is fine. On maternity leave it is really nice to have something to work towards. Performing in public with choir is not something I imagined doing this year but I loved it! I had not sang since school but Natalie is very supportive and gives me confidence to just go for it. I would definitely recommend melody makers to other mums who enjoy singing.’

I am not a very confident singer, in fact up until recently I’d only ever sung in front of my husband and baby daughter (4 months old). Although my husband always tells me I have a good voice I never had the confidence to sing in public, but when a fellow Mum saw an advert for the choir I thought ‘why not’ (especially as there are no embarrassing auditions!). I thoroughly enjoy my time with the melody makers ladies. It is brilliant to do something for yourself, that is also beneficial for your baby- singing to Evie is one of my favourite things and I definitely think she enjoys choir practice as much as I do. Natalie makes it so much fun and never fails to have us all in hysterics. She is encouraging, friendly and has such belief in the choir that it its impossible not to enjoy every minute. I would definitely recommend to any Mum looking for a bit of baby friendly ‘me’ time.

‘For as long as I can remember I have been very self conscious singing around others. I felt I couldn’t sing at all. Amidst a second bout of post natal anxiety i, for some reason, felt it was time I did something brave and for myself. Stepping out of my comfort zone and coming to melody makers. I am so pleased I did (especially as there were no auditions!) I love attending something where I feel I’m improving each week and we as a group are getting better and better. I get to spend time with my youngest daughter whilst also doing something for me. Some weeks I do lots of toddler chasing and some singing and other weeks it’s the other way round but it always feels good for my soul and my mental health to have a sing each week in a friendly relaxed environment. I thoroughly recommend it.‘
